Beach bag on the beach at Waikiki?

My boyfriend and I are going to Waikiki / Honolulu for our honeymoon in June. I've been doing a lot of research on places to go and see, hotels, flights, etc, but as is usually things that are harder to find logistics information. We intend to spend most of our days on Waikiki beach or something if your around the area of Honolulu. I have curiosity about how safe it is to carry a bag with mat beach towels, camera and some money and leave the book on the beach while you spend some time in the ocean? Should someone stay with our bag at all time? How hot is the sun in Hawaii? If I'm tanning is SPF 15 is enough, or should I go to a higher SPF like 30 or 45? Should I bring insect repellent? If mosquitoes are not bad, I'm allergic, so getting really big hives when I bit into it. Any other suggestions of this nature would be greatly appreciated!

It is relatively safe to leave your beach bag in Waikiki Beach, but usually ask for a close person or family to keep an eye on my stuff if I go in the water. Leave your wallet with cards identification and credit / debit cards in your hotel room is safe when you're on the beach. Take a few dollars with you - just enough to buy some drinks and snacks as it is everything you need on the beach anyway.
