There are 160 different species of mosquitoes in the United States, but not all bite. Only the female of the species from egg ago require that the blood carries. These eggs are usually laid in water and hatch in a few days.
Adult mosquitoes are three to five millimeters long, have a pair of wings, and live 10 to 14 days or months. They live longer in cold weather.
Worldwide, the three types of mosquitoes that often cause problems are the Anopheles stephensi, Aedes aegypti and Culex pipiens quinquefasciatus. picking up germs spread disease from infected animals or people and bring these to the other provided that suck blood.
"Races of Anopheles in fresh and polluted waters, especially at the edges of ponds and streams, in pools, water-filled containers and pools. aegypti breeds in water holding nothing clean or dirty. Culex breeds in polluted water and wastewater, latrines, and sometimes in the rain water collected in gutters, "he told the editors of Health Alert, a publication of the Health Information Network Action.

Malaria remains a problem in 82 countries despite the efforts of the World Health Organization to control the disease. In the old times, people thought malaria was caused by bad air that is how the disease got its name. We now know that mosquitoes are the culprits. They carry the parasite spore Plasmodium malaria in saliva and transfer of this to people they bite.
Once inside the victim's body, the spore to the liver and reproduces in red blood cells. After a while, the infected cells burst, scattering new malaria parasites that attack other cells.
There are four types of malaria, according to Plasmodium species that infects a person. They cause headaches, pain in the extremities, sweating and chills, lasting 15 minutes to an hour. These symptoms begin anywhere from eight days to eight months after biting the victim.
The most serious is malaria P. falciparum or cerebral malaria, which can be fatal if treatment is delayed or inadequate. In this type, the parasites infect the brain and nervous system and can cause sudden death. (Next: More of disease from mosquitoes.)
