Rats can be a leading annoyance in the lives of many individuals. These pests are identified to be carriers of fatal illnesses. Also, they nibble on anything that they can sink their teeth into, creating expensive destruction to buildings and prized possessions. To thwart rats from infesting your abode, you can choose from a number of methods of pest control.
You can use electronic pest control methods to rid your residence of rats. These methods use ultrasonic rat repellent devices that let out sounds of very high frequencies to deter rats. Only rats can hear these sounds and thus the devices are safe for people and household pets.
Organic rat repellents are also good solutions for successful elimination of rats. This technique uses small pellets or tablets of chemicals that emit smell of predatory creatures that feed on rodents, thereby scaring them away. These can be sprinkled throughout the house, front yard, garage or any other place frequented by rats.
You can also use moth balls that emit very strong repelling smell and can keep the rats off your residence. They are highly efficacious if kept in remote and dark corners of the house, which are likely to be inhabited by the rats.
One of the methods that have been widely practised for a long time now is the use of mechanical traps, often called wooden snap traps. They are not just inexpensive and simple to use, but are also extremely efficacious if laid with the right bait. They should be kept away from children and pets as they can cause injuries. The biggest disadvantage of using a rat trap is that it can trap just one rat at one go. Yet, it is a better option as it is safer than the chemical products that are usually toxic and thus harmful.
Another technique of catching rats is with the use of a glue board. They can be wooden or made of cardboard with their surface covered with glue. You can also place baits on the board by putting some food crumbs to attract the rats. When a rat scuttles across the board for the food, it gets stuck and eventually dies from either choking or starvation.
