Walther P-22 vs. SIG Mosquito?
Heard both might have some interference problems. Anyone have any experience with any of these weapons and comments on their performance? Very appreciated!
I had a P22 for over a year, and which are not handles are approximately 1 / 2 "too short for even my smaller hands, has been quite reliable and very fun (my kids love to shoot). I used last week to take a Mosquito (number A006xxx series), and also I have a 226 and I like the way it is exposed. The mosquito fits like a glove, but like everyone else, I had problems with it. The first time I shot out of the box that had many fail to feed properly (approximately 1 in 20 wins), not to drive correctly (about 1 in 50 laps), and not to fire (approximately 1 in 10). I pulled it apart to find that there was heavy in the spring, and I was using Remington Golden bullets and CCI Mini-Mags, that work very well in the Walther. I totally cleaned, changed to white spring (recommended for under hypervelocity ammunition) and tried again. Most 22 autoloader prefer high-speed or hyper-velocity ammunition to move properly. This got rid of a problem ejecting fail, but by about 200 rounds I still had about 5 fail to load (round feeds straight up and not in the room, which can be an issue of the magazine), and all the magazines (of rounds) that killed at least one or two will not fire (firing pin is not pressing the primer). I'm not going to pay, as I like the feel of the Mosquito in my hand. The trigger takes a lot to get used to, and after changing my 226 feels very light triggers. I threw the groups third the size, going from 200 rounds in the Mosquito, straight 50 rounds in the 226. In short, it fits better than the p22, but so far, the p22 has been much more reliable (only a few did not fire 200 rounds) for a .22 cal. I to do another thorough cleaning and lubrication and then try different ammo. I'll make my mind on it after a few thousand rounds. The point is in a session Shooting low cost. If I have to buy more expensive ammunition to make it work ($ 0.10/round), then I'm done with it and stay on the P22 and 226. I've heard that later models have much better reliability than the first. Go to one of the SIG forums and do a search on Mosquito if you want to see a bigger picture of issues.
