The word mosquito means "little fly" in Spanish and in this little, irritating insect is a source of many deadly diseases worldwide. There are about 3,000 varieties of mosquitoes with a population of about 100 trillion worldwide. Despite the mosquito larvae are a primary food source some fish and adults are food for birds and other animals, are a fatal danger to the human population.
Mosquitoes transmit a variety of diseases such malaria, yellow fever, dengue fever and elephantiasis / filariasis in tropical countries. In the U.S. the most common disease transmitted by mosquitoes is Equine Encephalitis which is incurable to date and has proved fatal in most cases. The Asian tiger mosquito, which is now quite widespread in the southern U.S. is that spreads encephalitis.
Mosquito-borne diseases claim one million lives each year worldwide and that is why a reduction of its population is great demand. Plans for mosquito control are planned by companies in the city to eliminate its growth in early life cycle known as the larval stage. The mosquito pools are standing water and garbage dumping areas where they live and die generally. Some breeds of travelers strong mosquitoes can travel several miles to the speed up to 10 mph, even through the rain, forwards and backwards in search of hosts for the victims.
Female mosquitoes are the that bite and suck blood in order to reproduce. They need blood for their eggs to develop. Usually bite humans, frogs, mammals, snakes and birds, corrected by the host with the help of smell, humidity, carbon dioxide and body heat. Usually breed around their living space to be near their targets.
Laying eggs in stagnant water, standing water, ditches and new car tires or saltwater wetlands, flower pots or old, this is the life cycle mosquito: egg hatching of swimming in larvae, pupae and after 24 hours of flight development in adults. Carefully planned disposition program, the Public Works Department intends to prevent the development of larvae into adult mosquitoes through the identification of breeding sites, using larvicide and the capture of mosquitoes in their breeding sites as soon as the spraying is expected, the resident population is notified in advance of the areas to be sprayed as a thesis fumes are dangerous to the human population.
These insecticides are the most rigorous testing of all chemicals. That meet strict standards before be registered for use by environmental Protection Agency. Some other effective methods to eliminate mosquitoes are also used as fish that can be stored in mosquito breeding sites to feed on the larvae.
The other methods generally used by homeowners are sprays mosquito repellents, bug zappers, bird and bat houses and citronella plants although they only remove a very small percentage of mosquitoes in the population. Prevention is the best cure, people should look for possible breeding sites in your yard and community and removes them. It is much easier to get rid of them in the egg and larval stage than later.
