Why all environmentist should hang its head in shame?
The http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/09/16/MNGKQL6N581.DTL&feed=rss.news World Health Organization invested years of age, politics Friday 30 and declared his support for the internal use of the pesticide DDT to control mosquitoes in regions where malaria is a major health problem. Headquartered in Geneva, The WHO, which advises many developing countries, believes the benefits of long-term pesticide far outweigh any health or environmental risk that may arise. About 1 million people die each year from malaria, most of them African children under 5. Go read all the articles on this subject, millions and millions have died because of faulty science. Why Enviro not have to pay for your wrong? What rights do they have to be the direct cause of slaughting these people, when there was a remendy and the extermination of a disease as horrible as Marlia? This makes me sick!
Completely different uses of DDT are involved. When DDT was banned it was being used in large numbers outdoors. The environmental impact was devastating. New information says to use small amounts indoors. Completely different use. Will the ban have become more intelligent, with exceptions? Sure. But overall it was a good thing, not a shame occaision. For all that DDT is used, while only a minority of countries have a problem of severe malaria. And the vast majority of DDT at the time of the ban was carried out in countries with no malaria problem at all. Still not unjustified. The reference given above for examples of bad science is for a band website, well outside the mainstream of science. The author is more political than scientist.
