Best safe way to prevent mosquito bites?

I'm going to India and Nepal for 2 weeks and I am petrified of mosquitoes (and all diseases that can infect with)! I've never been a place mosquito ridden before, and I'm not sure what you can safely do to prevent mosquitoes from biting me. I was told to use DEET and spray all my clothing with permethrin, but I read that DEET can cause neurological damage and increased peremthrin Parkinson's disease. But repellents "natural" does not seem to really work. I'm so confused! What can I do, or just make a bet and go with the lesser of two evils (in this case, go with DEET and permethrin)?

They also recommend not to put the repellent on your skin to be covered by clothing. You may want to consider applying of DEET to clothing and only the most natural or quasi-natural repellent for your skin. Do not neglect the brim of his hat. And another site reminded me of the leaves of Bounce fabric softener - Maybe. And Avon's skin so soft oil - which might or might not work - I've used it on horses.
