The recommendations for good non-DEET insect repellent?

Does anyone know of a no-good insect repellent containing DEET, or product natural? Hate DEET as smelly and sticky, but I always get bitten by mosquitoes really bad during holidays. In the past I used a citronella scent that worked well, but was interrupted. Any advice?

Mistakes I do not like lemon-scented, lemon grass looks much like lemon. You could get a little natural lemon oil for the health food store (not the furniture polish) and use. If you are outside and have a cookout and mosquitos swarm spray lemon-scented air freshener to make them leave. There are other herbs that insects hate, such as rosemary, lemongrass, lavender, cinnamon and verbena.
