How I can repel mosquitoes effectively?

Here is the scenario. I currently live in this tropical island. HOT. So I like to leave the house for half a day and lie in the hammock under the trees near my house. Read a book, and so forth. But these mosquitoes are killing me. I attempted a "high frequency sound to repel mosquitoes," which I downloaded from the Internet, but does not work. Later I found out portable speakers and phones I can not play mobile frequencies. I hate mosquito repellent sprays / creams. the smell makes me sick! I want something natural.
