As small as they are, mosquitoes can cause much havoc on individuals and nations. At least, the mosquito bites leave itchy red on his body and buzz in the ear, but can also transmit deadly diseases like yellow fever, malaria, avian flu and West Nile virus. In fact, mosquitoes infects up to 700 million people each year. When many of these victims die and others need medical treatment, not surprising that mosquitoes are among vectors of the deadliest disease in the world.

Traditional protection
Individuals and both nations have developed many ways to combat mosquitoes and the diseases they carry. People generally are based on bug spray, mosquito nets, scented candles, and immunization of mosquito protection. These measures to repel insects or isolating the victims, but large-scale projects actually trying to destroy mosquitoes.

There are several ways to reduce mosquito population. One is destroying their habitat. Another is to increase the number of predators. For example, dragonflies have proved very effective in reducing mosquito populations. And finally, can kill larvae and adult mosquitoes using pesticides.

Unfortunately, pesticides and destruction habit take a heavy toll on the environment and human health. DDT is a pesticide that was used for several generations until scientists discovered that negatively impacted bird populations and have contributed to cancer, asthma and diabetes in humans. Consequently, most developed countries have banned DDT use in the development farm in 1980. Other pesticides have been developed in its place, but are more expensive to produce and tend to grow pesticide-resistant mosquitoes.

A simple way to avoid pollution, negative health effects, odor, and the cost of pesticides, sprays and vaccines is to combat mosquitoes with light.

The light is an effective weapon against mosquito bites and disease, because they are highly susceptible to dehydration. That's why are much more abundant in marshy wetlands of dry places. Besides affecting their habitat, has made this susceptibility to develop an aversion to sunlight direct. And when the wavelength is to prevent mosquitoes reproduced by a commercial light bulb is 97% effective in repelling insects.
