How do I get rid of a plague of flies?

For about a month I had those little flies that resemble mosquitoes fly in the house and are becoming a nightmare when I have to kill a dozen every day. I have to have a couple of windows / doors open a little and are stacked in've looked around the outside of the house, but can not seem to find any evidence of a nest. I put in a couple of plugs fly murderer and candles, but still no luck. If you have any suggestions that might get rid of them and keep them out I would be so grateful. I'm desperate!
