The main food of bed bugs consists of blood from mammals, like the blood of humans. Bearing this in mind, you need to be always on alert that these pests should not be able to enter your residence. However, there are instances when you might have been negligent in your pest control measures, and a number of bed bugs could have already taken up residence in your home without you being aware of it.
What are the signs & symptoms of a bed bug infestation? There are two common signs, and they are as follows:
1. Bed Bug Rash
The rash starts with an itching feeling. You won't be able to see the rash at first but it will definitely feel itchy. It is itchier than a mosquito bite, and the itch can only be felt after a long time (minimum of an hour). Sometimes, the rash comes out only after a few days or weeks.
A bed bug rash has a small, round and red bump that looks more swollen than a mosquito rash. Sometimes, the rash looks similar to a sequential bite mark. If you think you may have bed bug rash, a few days of examining it wouldn't hurt. The rash causes long-term itching for days together. Also, a bed bug rash doesn't heal as fast as mosquito bites. They remain swollen for weeks at a time.
2. Smell of Bed Bugs
The next tell tale sign is bed bug smell. How do bed bugs smell like?
Bed bugs release a musty, obnoxious smell, so a hotel where there's a lot of bed bug infestation smells of it. Under the mattresses & headboard are common places where they can be smelled. If your sofas have cracks, check if they've got bed bug odor. They are also sometimes have bed bug infestation.
If your home is infested with bed bugs, call a pest control company as soon as possible. Afterwards, you have to create pest control rules to prevent bed bugs from re-infesting your place.
